Hamsaladeevi or “Swans Island” is a village in Diviseema, Krishna District in the state of Andhra Pradesh. This serene village is home to one among the 108 Vishnu temples known as the Venugopalaswamy temple. The ancient Venugopalaswamy temple built during the Chola dynasty, being at least 1000 years old, is renowned for its architectural brilliance and spirituality.
The village-tale boasts that it couldn’t have been built in such deep waters by anyone other than Devatas (Gods).
The village is also famous for its Sagara Sangamam – the point of confluence of the Krishna River & the Bay of Bengal – where one can clearly see three different colours of water merging.
It is rumoured that bathing in these waters is a holy experience & blessing, specially during Magha Pournami usually around the month of February. According to an ancient lore, a sage was once insulted by two notorious Gandharvas and were cursed to be crows. On repeated pleas of reversal, the sage offered that they could bathe in these very waters, turning them into swans.
