Squirrels are small to medium-sized rodents with bushy tails, large eyes, and soft, silky fur:

    • Size

Squirrels range in size from the African pygmy squirrel, which is 3.9–5.5 in long and weighs 0.42–0.92 oz, to the Bhutan giant flying squirrel, which can be up to 4 ft 2 in long.

    • Fur

Squirrels have short, soft, silky fur that can be whitish, gray, yellow, red, brown, or black. The color of their fur can vary between and within species.

Squirrels have slender bodies, longer back legs than front legs, and sharp claws. They have large eyes, rounded ears, and a broad, short head that tapers to a blunt muzzle with long whiskers.
